Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez Frias has reacted angrily to comments made by US Assistant Secretary for Western Hemispheric Affairs, Thomas Shannon.
Speaking at the closure of the First Inter-Regional Meeting for the Integration of Parana (Brazil), Chavez Frias read out Shannon's statement that Venezuela is undermining democratic institutions by using them to restrict the rights of those who disagree with him.
"They have no respect, no consideration, no nothing ... they are the Empire and have given themselves the right to rudely intervene in any country."
President Chavez Frias points to the fact that Shannon led the US delegation at the Summit of the Americas in Mar del Plata Argentine two weeks ago.
"Shannon says the USA is working internally in Venezuela and says it shamelessly ... furthermore, he's convinced internationally that there is a serious threat to democracy here."
The biggest threat to democracy, Chavez Frias states, is the US government ..."it's the biggest threat to the planet and all its peoples, including the brotherly people of the USA."
The USA is governed by an "assassin, genocide and lunatic ... I think the US people should understand that by the day ... we hope that the People of the USA will play a role in world liberation and the salvation of the Planet."
